Started in the music business in the era of Gordon Lightfoot and Melanie; was recording on United Artists and touring the country during that entire time frame of the seventies.

First albums were titled “Butterfly Lake” and “Motels and Stations”, both recorded on United Artists. A lesson never forgotten. Both albums were extremely overproduced, far too many instruments, and really had no relationship to what my music was supposed to be as a finished artistic endeavor. Most of the songs in those albums I still like, some not so much because they were written for children's movie themes and should not have been on the albums; which leads me to the point of how I always wanted to have my music experienced; definitely not as a huge perfect sounding orchestra with my voice included, recorded flawlessly. No, I prefer something similar as if you went into a small artsy cabaret and heard an artist performing with a guitar or piano, maybe some fellow musicians, a live artistic experience. It might sound perfect or could have a few glitches but definitely a live sound; listen to any famous artist recorded in the studio and then to their live album. Live is always more exciting and artistic, that’s what I always want.

So with “Prisoner of Desire” don’t look for location of famous recording studios or list of engineers; don’t look for names of all the musicians involved in the recording sessions. It’s recorded in a format where no vocals or pieces of the instruments playing are cut and pasted to remove even the smallest flaws. Might sound lazy but it’s actually pretty hard to do, you need way more takes; I feel the result is pretty damned close to a live recording.  As far as the material, everything I write is usually real life experiences, sometimes altered as required to protect the innocent. The song is everything and like any song, you either like it or you don’t.  Ciao Paul
